What can students expect from IDL courses?iDL’s adaptive courses are different from anything you have seen before, and focus on the learning process — to make your time and efforts pay off — to make the learning experience rewarding and challenging.
This is not just empty talk. With many online courses the drop out rate is often over 50%! That means that students become so discouraged and learn so little that they conclude that the course is a waste of their time and money. They see no chance that they can pass the final exam.
With IDL it is completely different.
Each course is organized around key concepts – the ones you need to learn.
After each concept we provide a short quiz; we call it a diagnostic quiz. The purpose is to check that you “got it.” You can see the results of the quiz right away with helpful comments on where you did well and where you missed the point. If you did not get enough of the questions right, we organize a special retake of that concept. This is not just a repeat of the same material (that didn’t come through to you); it is a complete new presentation, designed just for you, in a different learning style. This offers you the chance to see the same concept but from a different perspective. There is then another quiz. And again, you personally can see the results immediately. If you “got it” this time, you can then go on to the next concept. If you still didn’t get it, we try again with another learning style. Each time you can see progress, and you are the judge. This means that we catch your problems right away. No more slogging through a course falling further and further behind. You can still email questions to your professor, but the need for emails (and having to wait 48 hours for an answer) is greatly reduced.
Yes, we have chat rooms. We also have a Professor’s corner, where the professor can add his personal notes on the course.
Once you have experienced an IDL adaptive learning course, one that adapts to your personal needs, you will never want to go back. No more being jammed into the same course material with a hundred other students
Each IDL course is a complete course. This allows the professor to decide which classes he or she will teach in a classroom and which online. This means that if you miss a class, you can take it online and easily catch up.
The course material in all IDL courses is of the highest quality. We draw upon the best textbooks and the best course design consultants. The we organize the material to deliver personalized courses. No more just dumping boring text online, but a fully balanced course designed for your personal learning needs
